The first set will include All Around Me by Flyleaf, Jimmy Eat World鈥檚 The Middle, Type O Negative鈥檚 Christian Woman, Thank You for the Venom by My Chemical Romance and Twisted Reality, an original composition by OCC student Maggie Payne.

The second band will perform Bowling for Soup鈥檚 1985, Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind, Peter Gabriel鈥檚 Sledgehammer and Slide by the Goo Goo Dolls.

The OCC Jazz Ensemble鈥檚 selections will include the Brazilian brass sounds of Blue Bossa along with the standard swing song Summertime and Crazy Race, a contemporary piece with elements of hip hop, soul and jazz fusion.

The concert is open to the public with donations accepted at the door.

OCC Director of Bands Wade Baker is excited to showcase the students鈥 work over the spring semester and is looking forward to next fall.

鈥淥ur numbers are coming back up again,鈥 Baker said. 鈥淲e have 19 prospective students for next year and we are looking to grow the program further.鈥

Over the next four years, Baker said the Music Department will receive $32,000 from the OCC Foundation for new equipment. The program recently used a portion of the funds to purchase percussion instruments.

鈥淲e are trying to accrue the basic needs of a Music Department and trying to open different avenues for students to serve their needs and wants,鈥 Baker added. 鈥淲e are very excited and doing everything we can for students whether they want a two-year degree or are preparing for a four-year degree.鈥

Those efforts include ongoing updates to the college鈥檚 recording facilities.

鈥淲e have our first client for our recording studio, which has been a big project,鈥 Baker said. 鈥淲e will be sharing more information and opening those services to the community in the coming months.鈥

Baker invites students to apply for the Music Department鈥檚 Tuition Waivers. The scholarships are available to qualifying students who participate in one or more of the OCC bands and choirs. Students need not be music majors to qualify.
